Keeping Punk Dead for Pop Purposes

You may have heard the term “Punk’s not dead” before. It’s sort of an old cliché that rebellion and angst will continue to thrive -- as long as people have the right to yell loud and play fast music. Sadly, punk rock really is dead; it’s become a commercialized commodity like every other music genre in the digital age. But while the sound may have gotten saturated at the hands of marketing execs, there are still a few bands that continue to question authority, push boundaries, and keep the punk ethic alive.

No Use For A Name isn’t one of those bands, but they are veterans. The group has been playing its own style of California Pop-Punk for over 20 years. Instead of anger, you’ll find fun and catchy songs that will make you bob your head and squeeze your girlfriend. It would make Sid Vicious spin in his grave, but who cares? He’s dead. So, forget about “the cause” for a night when No Use For A Name drops by the Culture Room (3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $15. Doors at 7:30 p.m.
