This winter may have begun with a Bang! at Bicentennial Park, but the dance music festival season traditionally (and perhaps appropriately) always kicks off in Candyland. Held at Nocturnal this year, the annual blowout has been around for even longer than the WMCs and holds the title of Florida’s longest-running dance music festival. In the past ten years, it has played host to luminaries like Josh Wink, Bad Boy Bill, and DJ Icey. This year’s headliner is South Florida electro-breaks duo Jackal and Hyde. Their sound is mercurial and cavernous, revealing the points of intersection between industrial’s dark hues and Miami Bass’ luxurious thump. They’ve done remix work for everyone from Kid Rock to Love & Rockets (find another pretext for mentioning those two in the same sentence), and their live shows are among the most renowned in the business. Other performers include local turntablist DJ Craze spinning a Miami Bass set, the legendary Adam F headlining the drum ’n’ bass room, and U.K. duo Hydraulix performing its first-ever live set.
Candyland starts at 10 p.m. Thursday, December 22, at Nocturnal, 50 NE 11th St., Miami. Presale tickets are available for $20 and $25. Visit miamiatnight.com. Call 305-5525505.
