Are you a Dapper Dan Man? Now before you go searching the mind log for that reference, I'll quit pussyfooting and just give it to you: O Brother, Where Art Thou, the Coen Brothers' hilarious rip through Homer's Odyssey, a great film which also featured a terrific collection of vintage American music. With a who's who of classic players, it's no wonder Sam Bush's mandolin is featured on at least one track ("In the Jailhouse Now") because truth be told, Bush has been a virtuoso of the instrument for 30 years. Could you have the Telluride Bluegrass Fest without him showing up? Heck no! Dapper or not, Bush's handful of studio albums are excellent pieces of work, as are his hundreds of hours logged in sessions for other big-time musicians. Passing him up live will only make you dumber than a bag of hammers!
Sam Bush performs at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Bamboo Room, 25 South "J" St., Lake Worth. Tickets cost $55. Call 561-585-2583.
